RAMLILA CELEBRATIONS are not only about staging of the ancient Hindu epic – Ramayana, but is a social platform involving lakhs of people cutting across all political, caste, religious and economic barriers. Ramlila depicts the victory of good over evil, apart from providing a strong feeling of brotherhood and common bonding.

The annual Ramlila celebrations began at thousands of venues across the Capital on Tuesday, under unprecedented security cover in view of the recent terrorist attacks. Fearing an untoward event, security, intelligence agencies and Ramlila organisers have made elaborate arrangements in the Ramlila Pandals this year.

"All visitors, including the organisers and volunteers entering the venue are being thoroughly frisked by the police and private security guards appointed for the ten-day long celebrations without causing any inconvenience or harassment to any visitor,"’ said Rajender Garg, general secretary of Ashok Vihar, Phase I, Ramlila Committee . He emphasised that this year, Ramlila Committee is strictly following the set of directives issued by Delhi Police, including round the clock strict vigil in entire Ramlila Pandal apart from installation of CCTV cameras at all strategic points in the pandal. "We have erected mega screens to have a better view of the Ramlila and its arrangements in the entire pandal", he added.

This year, Ramlilas are expected to witness latest technological innovations in terms of sound, lighting and stage presentation to bring alive the magic of ancient epic. ‘‘We use latest cordless microphones, to enable the dialogues to be delivered more effectively’’ said Shyam Sundar Vasudeva. "Special sound and light effects to create clouds, thunder and war scenes would be few of the highlights of the Ramlila this year,’’ Vasudeva added. According to him, Ashok Vihar Phase I Ramlila, which has been rated among the top Ramlilas in Delhi during past years, strives to claim the first position this year too.

This year, Ramlila celebrations were inaugurated by Rikabh Chand Jain, chairman, TT Group of Industries and leading social worker and industrialist, Prem Sagar Goyal. The gala inauguration ceremony was held in the Ramlila ground, Ashok Vihar, Phase I. Highlights of the inauguration function were live band performances, fire works and Ganesha Vandana dance ballet.
